Best Car Deals

Cheap used cars

If you're buying a cheap car on a budget then you're in the right place. You’ll find every car listed on Autovillage with an asking price of £500 or more. You have the ability to sort search results by the best deals first, or by the latest offers, on popular cars like the Ford Fiesta, the Volkswagen Golf and the BMW 3 Series. Looking for more cheap cars

SUVs and 4X4s

SUVs have become increasingly popular thanks mainly to their higher driving position that gives a more commanding view of the road, with used SUVs like the Skoda Kamiq and Nissan Qashqai great used family SUVs. Not all SUVs offer four-wheel drive though, so if you want a car to tackle all terrains, you’ll want to make sure

Estate cars

While SUVs may have taken the limelight, a good used estate car is hard to beat as a family wagon, with loads of space for a family of four and a large boot that’ll swallow up plenty of luggage or the family dog. A Skoda Octavia estate can be a great cheap used car buy, while if you’re looking for a bit more luxury, check out a Volvo V60.

Luxury used cars

Luxury cars are all about comfort and sophistication. Traditionally thought of as large limousine-like saloons, there are now plenty of luxury cars including SUVs and GTs that offer a premium finish and sublime performance. A luxury used car is more affordable than you think, with the likes of used Audi A8s and Range Rovers costing the same as a new family hatchback.

Family cars

Practicality is the key criteria when looking for the best used cars for families. That means a decent-sized boot and enough space for four passengers to travel in comfort. Used family cars fall into four main categories - hatchbacks, SUVs, estate cars and MPVs. Hatchbacks are the smallest of the bunch and are a great all-rounder, with cars like the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf particular favourites.

Convertible cars

You can’t beat an open road in a convertible car. While our summers aren’t quite like those on the continent, us Brits seem to like making the most of it when the sun comes out. Convertible cars are great fun, with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair bound to put a smile on your face. They don’t have to cost the earth either, with cars like the Mazda MX-5 great budget buys.

Electric cars

Electric cars come in all shapes and sizes, from small city cars like the Skoda e-citigo to large SUVs like the Volkswagen ID.4. With their range improving all the time and cars becoming even more refined, a used electric car can be a great buy. See the latest electric car stats.

Hybrid cars

If you’re not quite ready for an electric car, then how about a hybrid? Hybrid cars marry a petrol (or in some cases a diesel) engine to an electric motor, giving you the best of both worlds. It allows you to run around town under electric power, but switch to petrol for longer journeys.

When is the best time to buy a used car?

If you’re looking to buy your next car, you’re probably asking yourself if it’s a good time to buy? AutoVillage always has fantastic deals on used cars, but there are a few things to consider to help you get the best deal.

Typically, a good time to buy a used vehicle can be March and September. This is when the new number plate formats are introduced and new car sales spike, with the knock on result being dealers taking in extra part-exchange cars. With extra used stock, dealers are going to be looking to shift this quickly so will be more likely to apply a discount.

Alternatively, February and August can be a good time to buy a used car. In anticipation of the influx of part-exchange cars coming into stock when the new number plate formats appear the following month, dealers will be looking to clear out old stock.

It’s not just dependent on the month though, but also the type of car you’re looking to buy. As soon as spring arrives, people start thinking about buying a convertible or sports car, which pushes prices up, while the first frost will often get people hankering for a used 4x4 off-roader. The trick is to buy these out of season, so you are likely to get a great deal on a used convertible car in the depths of winter, while a rugged 4x4 is likely to be more competitively priced in the summer.
